Info
This housing project reimagines the apartment as a system of streets rather than corridors. Three distinct 'streets', each with its own spatial and social character, operate across three levels of the building. Individual units are conceived as tube houses that plug into these streets. If one unit accesses a street at the ground level, the opposing unit accesses the same street at the first-floor level, creating spatial reciprocity and visual overlap rather than hierarchical separation.

DESCRIPTION
Inspired by Indian urbanism, where streets function as extensions of private life, the project treats internal streets as social commons. These shared spaces encourage informal occupation, interaction, and negotiation, transforming movement into social exchange. The street is understood as a site that is continuously claimed, contested, and reshaped by its users. By internalizing the street, the project blurs the boundary between private and collective life, positioning housing as an active neighborhood rather than a closed enclosure.
Tube House: Parallel tube houses share party walls, fostering proximity, mutual awareness, and collective responsibility.
Spatial Organization: Laterally, spaces alternate between rooms and courtyards—kitchen, courtyard, living/bedroom, courtyard, bedroom—providing light, ventilation, and privacy. Longitudinally, bands of services and inhabitable spaces ensure efficiency and clarity.
Courtyard & Openings: Perpendicular openings preserve privacy, while inward-facing courtyards serve as the social and climatic heart, connecting private interiors to the street.

EXTRAS
The process was understanding streets structures, drawing them on paper. Understanding the climate and typography of the place. Making inference at different scales.
The project was a gold winner at Domestic Level for Asian Contest of Architectural Rookie's Award 2018, Pune. Also represented India at Asia Level at Taiwan.
